Deep Creek Lake Rental Spotter identifies vacation rentals at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland: point the camera at a lakefront house and it's labeled with the rental agency's name, distance, and a link to the agency's own listing.

Why does the app ask for location and camera?

Location (While Using) is what makes the app work: your position and compass heading decide which properties are in front of you. Without it, nothing can be placed, and the app shows an explainer screen instead.

Camera is the live view the labels are drawn over. Declining it is not fatal — labels are drawn over a placeholder backdrop instead, with a banner saying so. Both are used entirely on your device; see the privacy policy.

Does it work without cell service?

Yes. The full property database ships inside the app, so identification works with no signal at all — GPS itself needs no data connection. When you're online, the app automatically picks up the latest property data from this site; there's nothing to configure. Property thumbnails and listing pages do need a connection, since they load from the rental agencies' own sites.

Can I narrow down which homes appear?

Yes. Both the Spotter and the Map have a Filters button (top right) that can limit markers to lakefront homes only, to particular rental agencies, or to a bedroom range. The filters are shared between the two tabs, and the button shows a count while any are active. Spotter markers also show each home's bedroom count.

Can the map show satellite imagery?

Yes. The Map tab has a style toggle that switches between Standard and Satellite views, and the app remembers your choice.

It says I'm miles from Deep Creek Lake

The Spotter view is built around the lake, so far from it the app shows a distance screen with two choices: Preview from the lake, which parks a simulated position in a McHenry cove while your device's real compass drives the view, and Open Map, which works anywhere in the world.

Markers seem misplaced or jittery

Marker placement is only as good as the phone's compass. If labels look rotated or drift, the app will prompt you to calibrate — wave the phone in a figure-eight pattern — and settles once GPS accuracy improves. Metal boat hardtops and dashboards can interfere with the compass; moving the phone away from them helps.

A property is wrong or missing

The database is compiled from the three agencies' public listing pages and refreshed periodically. A wrong location, a missing rental, or one that's no longer listed is a data issue — please report it with the property name and it will be corrected in the next data update.

Where do I book?

On the agency's own website. The app links every property to its listing at Railey Vacations, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations, or Red Barn Vacations, where current photos, availability, and booking live. The app has no booking flow, shows no prices, and takes no commission.
